Picture of the House when I first Purchase It
Lately I have been working on the idea of Co-Housing and Intentional Community with the thought of Turning the House here, as Citizens of Planet Earth Academy into the first 'leg' of this journey to self sufficent living. When the roommates were here I jokingly called the house the commune, as that is the feel I wanted to have present. Now I have decided that I am going to actively turn the house into a stepping stone to ''the Cabin in the Woods'' dream. It really has always been the idea for when I purchased the home originally in 1998 with my Ex, and best friend Ricky we had already lived almost communally for six years prior to buying this home. Through the years I have held onto the dream of making this into a Suburban Commune of sorts, wanting to Live more simple and self sufficent while still participating in society. I own a 1/2 acre that I ALONE have RECLAIMED for the EARTH and actively have sought the Energies of Deva's, Elementals, and Power Allies of all types to Come and Bless this small piece of Earth. My Sacred Circle and Labyrinth are part of the idea to Anchor a TRANSFORMATIONAL Energy here in Charlotte that speaks to the need to live with Nature, not destroy it.
It has been a battle of many parts of my self, and now I am at the point that I know I cannot, nor do I want to do this alone. I need Co Creators in this change to what may soon be a norm with life after PEAK OIL on the horizon. My survival instincts and my Pagan outlook color this in a fashion that makes it hard for me to just advertise for the run of the mill Roommate.
So, Being that I trust many/most if not all of you my friends here in BlogLand, I am asking for advice.
How do I find the kind of people who wish to Live together towards a goal of One Day having the best of both worlds. #1: a Home here in the City,,, but living a more simplified/ self sufficent lifestyle,, and #2: Seeking, finding, and purchasing some rural/remote land for a retreat Homestead that will blossom into the Permanant site of Citizens of Planet Earth Academy?
This is not as simple as I thought because most people are so geared to the CONSUMER LIFE that is almost impossible to drag them away from devouring the Earth, consciously or Unconsciously.
So,,, this is a fast post just to put my idea on the burner,,,
any thoughts/ ideas on how to bring this to fruition will be appreciated very much.

Hi, Scott. You can probably find folks by looking at where you go for food and information and advertising with flyers/ads there. Also there are resources like the ReachBook on the Fellowship for Intentional Community website, http://www.ic.org/ . Good luck in your quest! There are existing cohousing and other communities in your state -- Raines, boardmember, Cohousing Association of the US (http://www.cohousing.org/ ) and FIC, who flew through your town while going to our national conference in Chapel Hill and visiting other communities and a conference near Asheville

Send out a net by telling all your pagan friends what you have in mind. As they spread it around, you should start hearing from people.

In terms of a nature retreat, I know S.E. Pennsylvania is a long way from Charlotte, but you should definitely check out Four Quarters Farm. You can even choose to erect a permanent tent there at a nominal fee.

Try a flyer at yoru local food coop or farmers market! :-) Good luck to you Scott. It's a dream I've always had in the back of my mind too. I know you are a creator of your own reality so just imagine it and it will come to you. Belive it, Baby! :-)

Hi there Scott,

Thank you for stopping by my blog. I am glad to see you growing in this journey called life.

Love the dream of a co-op type house, and know that whatever you do, it will be done with great gusto.

Happy Thanksgiving.

Hmmmmm ... how indeed.

I am sort of facing the same dilemmna, how does one do this. I would love to advise you, but all I can see is put an add in a paper or magazine where such individuals may congregate.

I have been trying to figure out how to do something similar and I may have found a potential answer...

My mother lives in a small town and her house has a gigantic basement. I do not wish to live in the city forever. I have begun to clear her basement to build walls for another apartment. I will be able to have a home within my Mother's home, she will end up with two more guest rooms! In the long run, my siblings and I will have two seperate dwellings in the house which can be lived in, or rented .... but we will always have a home away from home....

If you cannot rent out rooms ...could you build another aprtment in your house?

Eventually you can use your house to finance the property in the woods!

Peace and Blessings

I'd use the pagan network first - spread the word, maybe make a simple flyer to put in healthstores/places where they sell organic food etc.

I'll let you know if I plan to move to Charlotte in the near future!! :)

Missed you, but now I'm back too...
