Preparedness VS Survivalist Mentality

I have always tried to follow my intuition as 9 out of 10 intuitions have been correct and the times that I do not follow intuition but logic makes for a mess. Lately my intuitions have been of less than optimistic rank so I have been slow to act on them and literally have pushed them out of my mind. Yet they keep coming back like a repeat TV show and I am forced to deal with them. My latest intuition has to do with our worlds current state of affairs and life here in America. Frankly, I am going to be a downer in this post so you are welcome to laugh, and leave at this point as you might sense conspiratorial moods shifting and an 'end of the world' type atmosphere. But if you listen you will realize that I am actually being more positive than it might appear.
And I am going to be very frank and risk sounding stupid because even if I am wrong, I hope to present an alternative to what most of us are doing with our lives at the moment.

That being said, I will now say the obvious :
THE SHIT HAS HIT THE FAN
It might not have hit you in the face yet, but the stink is evident if you blow your nose and take a breath.
Most survivalists and end O da Worlders, scream that it is coming, it is coming. I am saying that The Show has begun, and I will not be the first saying this obvious comment. The World as you know it HAS ENDED. Some of the ways of living NOW, may not be possible in the near future, so alternatives are needed. My personal way is to SIMPLIFY and be Prepared.
As far as the End of the World, well.....
It was declared when our President started using phrases like "perpetual war on terrorism" and making damn sure that it is so, an endless 'wargame' to fill the coffers (and coffins) of the elite who would rule this beautiful blue pearl called Earth. Capitalism has reached it's zenith and is taking a nosedive to oblivion by fostering mock democracy across the world in a wake of War on ''Terror". We have been mocked and fooled into slavery to a 'New World Order" that you may laugh at because it sounds so absurd, but if you chose to look you will see the claws of Tyrants in what used to be the vanguard of Freedom. The people of this nation are now only considered to be CONSUMERS, so they are fed slop and eat it with relish.
Personally I have abdicated and withdrawn giving any 'food' to the Beast, but that doesn't mean I am immune, in fact it now means I am food for the monster that our "Leaders" have created. For any who choose to withdraw from the MACHINE must be made to submit or be turned into 'examples' for those Sheep who remain loyal to a system that has become a SHADOW of it's former self. But, I am a SURVIVOR in the best sense of the word, and on top of that as far as being armed, I am armed with the same weapons that are being used upon the unsuspecting people I call SHEEP. For I am a Magickan of MEMEs and a Sorcerer of Semantics just as they employ themselves, my advantage is that I also am in realization of my TRUE HIGHER WILL. Which makes me a target, if not an enemy of the STATE of Mind that prevails to Rule the Flock. (This is not Paranoia, just a fact of being someone who SEEs the bigger picture for what it is and is becoming. A Fascist state doesn't care much for poets and dreamers of alternative states of being.
Which brings me back to the 'meat' of this post. Preparedness.
This weekend I packed my bags in preparation. They may not get used, but they will be READY if I need to pick up and get out of the CITY of Nightmares that our RULERS have herded us into for control. Citys are today like corrals for beasts of burden, doing the labor of those who would live off the 'fat' of the land.
This part is simple, but most will not take the time to do as I have done because of the 'outlandishness' of how it feels and seems to pack a BUG OUT BAG.
A Bug Out Bag is a sack of preparedness that you will wish you had gathered in the wake of a Storm. It could just be a "Natural" phenomenon like a really bad storm, that destroys the comfort of living in the American Dream. No power, no roof over your head,,, what are you going to do? Well, I have a ready made group of items that I would be walking around with if I need to survive in the aftermath of such a STORM. Right now it fits nicely in the trunk of my car (which I practically live out of anyway) and will other choice items which I am spreading across my most likely route of exit, I will be able to pick up, replace or change as needed. This is just a small sample of what I have, and all of the items shown here are not all to the items in that one small purple backpack. The items beside the Altoid box fit in that box, the items in the Gray leather pouch fit into it and in turn everything fits into the Gay Purple Back Pack.Believe me when I say, I can live out of that bag for a good while. Now, until the time this is really needed I am perfecting it, and working each day on a small section, plan of action "Just in Case" Our troops are trained for eventualities that never happen, but if and when they do happen, they are PREPARED because of the time taken in training themselves for ANY CONDITIONS. I follow the same rule with my own outlook, It may not happen, but if and when it does, I want to be prepared.
Lately, Omens and 'signs' have been coming to the forefront and the other day I recieved a funny (or not) chuckle when I read my Horoscope in our local paper. At first I laughed, but then a sinking feeling that the Noosphere was communicating a preparedness warning hit me,, so I changed my view and along with some other synchronicities that are screaming BE READY,, I decided to get off of my ass and redo my Purple Bug Out Bag, (really gay color, huh!)
This is the horoscope as it read word for word as I saved it and stuck it in my wallet.

CANCER: GATHER AS MUCH AS YOU CAN NOW, WHILE IT IS AVAILABLE. YOU CAN SLEEP LATER, AFTER YOU HAVE AT LEAST A YEAR'S WORTH IN STORAGE.

The funny part of this is I used to ALWAYS have a years supply of foods, alternate fuels etc. but have let it dwindle down, and gave alot of it away to needy friends so that I have less than a month or two in supplies stocked at the house. Believe me, that changed this week. I know it is just a daily newspaper entertainment horoscope, but the thing is ,, my Intuition had been already screaming for me to return to my Survivalist roots and prepare for the 'Unknown' that may lurk on the horizon. Also the term SLEEP, which I use to signify those who move about unaware to 'reality' hit me hard So, one of the reasons I haven't been writing alot on the blog is that I am reorganizing, replanning, replacing many items that I used to always have on hand. Over the years I have changed and my thoughts on "End O da World" events has changed.
Now my biggest push is what I call DISCONNECTING from the HIVE, meaning that I don't do the shopping thing for consumer mindlessness, I shop with the outlook of POST-EVENT use. I buy seeds, and tools that can be used by hand, no electricity, and look for technological items that might still be useful as I am no Luddite wanting to survive totally on parsnips. I also aim to SIMPLIFY and live a more sustainable life that doesn't require much to be fulfilling.
I store Water, and look for ways to collect water, find water and purify it so that it is usable. I am looking for ways to use GRAYWATER to use on the plants. I am learning all I can about longtime storage and buying things I will EAT and since I don't eat MEAT any longer this is actually very easy. I don't need refrigeration for most items I will consume. I search out NON GENETICALLY MODIFIED SEEDS and Plant items in the yard that will help out. I know the area very well and know paths of exit from the city JUST IN CASE. If all goes to plan I will return to the country sooner than later. But if I don't get there,, I am ready here in the suburbs just as well, no need to wait.
Our world is turning upside down and finding ways to Transform and adjust to the changing ways of society and the world at large are imperative for survival.
Things may not become as bad as many predict, but being the Gay Boy Scout I was As a youth makes me want to be PREPARED,,, Just in CASE.
Being the Shaman I am makes this a Transformational exercise in Survival, Learning and Hope for the FUTURE and actually very fun and fulfilling. Our Future is predicated by our actions now, and I find solace in returning to a more simple path. Growing my own food is just one aspect of this path. Knowing how to live in a PostCapitalistic world will be a requirement when the bubble burst and cheap oil is a distant memory. How will you live after the rug is pulled out from under you? Are you prepared? Could you make it without the comforts you now have and live within? If not, my suggestion is to at least learn a new skill to help yourself,,
Just In Case.

We are all sitting Ducks my friend, there is no where to run 'away' anymore. The wilderness is gone and our cities now are the jungles. Alot of people will think I am fostering defeatism and paranoia, but I feel that being prudent and ready for anything is wise. I am letting my intuition guide me now. So, maybe I will be prepared, or not, who knows with this crazy world we live in today. All we can do is enjoy each day and be ready for the "Fun" and "Excitement" when it comes our way.
much love to you

Having left SF after many years, and now residing in the midwest, I've taken rationing (both gasoline & water) and have downsized and found a small bungalow with room for herbs and such.
Of course, getting older, one finds it easy to do without all you're "supposed" to have/do according to those who want us to follow like good sheeple.
Prior to the earthquake in '89, we always had water, flash light etc in a bag ready to go, just in case.
Nice read.....; )

Thank you Coffee Messiah,
I have always had a survivalist streak in me that needs to be 'fed' once in awhile and lately it has reared its head asking to be 'fed' a better diet. So I am in a reOrganize mode that has me refining what I have in the past maybe done a bit haphazardly.
Yes, to simplify is the key to much of this, I am in a house that is most likely to large just for myself, so I am about to open it back up to roommates, hopefully who will be additions to this way of life. I also have a communal streak as I am too social to really be a hermit, though I say that is where I am heading alot of the times. Again thanks for visiting, please come back and I will also head over to visit you, as I have been meaning to visit.

Yeah, This is a great post scott!

I have thought about such events occuring for little over ten years now. I used to stock food, water and seeds.
I thought about the possibility of building an underground shelter with CO2 tanks, have read and researched Aboriginal food and shelter techniques and lived in the 'bush' for a couple of months, such was the extent of my 'paranoia'!

However, you make a great point about there being nowhere to go. While there still are some remote areas left,(especially in Australia) in a large scale destructive event, will we have the chance to run? Will the remote areas escape unscathed by global catastrophy? Would you want to live with polluted water, acid rain, plants that wont grow, toxic air and ppl trying to kill you for what you have left?

It's a major dilema.

If we did survive, would passing on our pagan values help to establish a community of people who cherish the earth and bring forth a new age of understanding.......the 'Golden Age'?
Or would the death of our species by our own hand ensure the renewal of new species' and the healing of the 'blue pearl'?

I think either way, what happens will be for a reason and may even involve 'outside assistance'. Personally, I don't mind leaving this life for the next, if it helps this beautiful planet. Passing our knowledge into a 'Golden Age' is certainly my endevour though, especially for my innocent children.

We will soon see!

Much love and understanding

Hey, Scott, you really are serious aren't you! But you can't run from nukes is the trouble. Even if you avoid the main blast, the radioactivity eventually gets you.

I'm going to stock up on wine and sit drinking until my toes turn up! Cheers!
