Things I am Doing to Change my World
Simplify.
I am working very hard now to simplify every aspect of my life. Being an American makes this very difficult especially since I live in a Suburban area in a city. But I am making headway. First and foremost, I have quit buying anything new that is completely unnessasary. No new Toys, electronic or otherwise, no new CDs (and I love music) I will have to be happy with Radio for the time being. No New Car,, and mine is on it's last legs,, hopefully she can hold out for a while longer. No New Clothes,,, and damn I need them, mine are of the decade old variety at the moment.
When I do need to purchase something, first I will visit the thrift stores. Clothes are cheap and alot of times I can buy the name brands everyone fights for with just a few dollars. Yard sales will soon be online again and I will be out hunting for bargains there again this year.
Why? For a number of reasons, first I am still one broke puppy!! Second, I have a feeling that this year is going to be a whopper as regards to International intrigue and Gas is not going to go down with the idiots in the Middle East fighting like the cats and dogs they play. I can envision having to pay up to $8.00 or more for gas by years end if things keep going as they are at the present so be forewarned. A new bike is the only "New to me" purchase I have marked on my list.
Seeds. I am buying alot of seeds. Hopefully not genetically modified by those bastards mucking with the ability to get seeds from plants I grow. I have planned out my garden, tilled, weeded and am still working on my production ability as far as feeding myself goes. I am also working on growing inside my home, as I really wonder about the weather this year and think I will experiment with some hydroponic growing of food.
Energy: My household energy consumption has went up (alot) with my new roomies and I am working on addressing the holes in my conservation actions that have come up with adjusting to new people in the house that don't like it as cold as I do in the winter, or hot as I can stand it in the summer. I am adjusting ,,, and it is hard for me to understand (especially they being pagan) any wasteful living habits. I know that we all waste, me too, but I have consciously commited to working on the worst of these habits and feel that I could do even more than I do,,, with some help.
Many trees have been knocked down in my yard this winter,, and they are being used for future firewood. Every twig. I will not put them to the curb as is done in most households, they will be used in emergency heating situations of the future,,, every twig.
Water concerns me alot. I store it. If you look in some of my past blogs you can see pictures of a few of the 50 gallon drums I have for water storage. Some think me a fanatic, but I will drink to my eccentric folly one day I am sure,, and so will my fourlegs.
I am networking with others who think similar and want feedback on Surburban Homesteading and Frugal living. so any hints on household economy is very welcome.
I again am cutting out most Eating Out as that drains my pocketbook way to much, but if someone wishes to treat me, I will return the favor with a good home cooked meal. Again I am soon to have returned to a completely Vegetarian lifestyle. It will be difficult as there are two hardcore meateaters in the house now, but I have explained myself to them and they will respect my choice. (I will leave articles out on Spinal Cords {possible Mad Cow links} in US Grade Meat,,, just to keep them abreast of the Poisons in their choices)
I am still on my DECLUTTER kick, meaning that I am trying to get things I no longer use out of my life and house, but I still will resist the urge to sink it in a garbage can if possible. RECYCLE RECYCLE RECYCLE
Other things:
I will write at least 1/2 hour each day, but aim for 2 hours or more.
I spend at least 1/2 hour each day in the sunshine, but aim for more.
I spend at least 1/2 hour each day OUTSIDE, but aim for more.
I will read for at least 1/2 hour, but aim for more.
I will meditate for at least 1/2 hour, but will aim for constant meditation in my life.
I will aim to do something newly productive around the house for at least 1/2 hour each day but do more!!
One whole day is for my spiritual needs and Divinity each week. This can take many forms, from hiking to going to a new group meeting, to just BEING.
I exisit in the NOW and will Hold Center with that each moment, and draw myself back when I reel out of control.......... (Thanks Dimitri)
I will spend more time with those I love.
I will spend more time alone with my wonderful companions with four legs, Titan, Mystical, Pud and the Monkey Kat.
The TV is pretty much history,I think it Numbs the brain, and will watch it only for inspiring movies and to ''socialize'' with my new roomies.. they play alot of XBox and gamer stuff?? Baffles me, but that is when they are around the TV and with movies.
As many of you have realized, I have cut my computer time down conciderably and will watch myself closely to make sure I use it properly and with a correct intent. No more MY LIFE is a Virtual Reality, it is a great wonderful part, and I will not ditch out on my wonderful spiritual friends I have met here on the Internet. But, I am living more in the 3D Now, and less vicariously as before, my Blog and Journal will be my fun time on the computer. and The Internet Book Sales will be part of my worktime schedule for the computer. Balance is called for here and I have addressed that in my life.
So, I just wanted to let you all know,, I am a simple man, ( and still a single homo, if you know of a good one for me to meet???) and my spiritual development is the most important thing for me at this time. So I am simplifying to get down to the Brass tacks.
It actually is very exciting, and not at all boring as it sounds. I will be doing a study group here soon and I will let you all know how that goes of course. I will be more involved with the various groups that I work with, pagan, metaphysical and spiritual. Possibly I will be a bit more politically involved,,, I haven't decided yet if that is going to take place??
So, LIFE IS GOOD, and I am here in the NOW. I send out my LOVE to each and everyone of you who are very significant part of my life, you all have helped to get me to this wonderful point of being.
PEACE AND BLESSINGS TO ALL

A most excellent plan ...
And of course .... which is not surprising .... I am attempting a similar process.
Cleaned up my employment.
Cleaned up my living situation.
Stopped buying unneccessary items as the money is needed elsewhere.
It is all good.
Peace and blessings.

Excellent plans Scott! I share many of your goals. Peace & love to you. :-)
count me in with you and the other "commenters" here. i have been thinking the same lately -- decluttering my life of unnecessary items, watching what i buy ... conscientious of what i purchase, use, etc.
for a "purpose" -- i think the church i've been attending has many different activism areas to work in.
wishing you (and others) the best with your goals. maybe we can share suggestions (?)
I have made such a similar lists... more than once. The 1/2 interval plan? I've done that at least a million times. I can keep it up for a while, but something inevitably happens to knock me off my "plan." (Or maybe I am just lazy - lol!)
I hope you have better luck than I have had with staying focused. It's tough to fit everything in when you're such a multi-faceted person such as yourself.
There is definitely a good price to keeping life simple. For me, it usually means to shut off my brain (step number one.)
Hope you are well. Astro sends you kisses.
It's so ironic how living simply can become so difficult! My own goals echo many of yours. I think my problem is that sometimes I am simply too lazy or too preoccupied with secular thoughts that my goal of living simply only becomes further complicated. :sigh:
You know, Scott, I do have a few lovely men that I could introduce to you. Unfortunately, the catch is that you will have to come visit me here in NYC as they live here. How does that sound??? :-)
I hear ya Scott, I have cut way back this year as well.
I can envision having to pay up to $8.00 or more for gas by years end
I hope you're wrong.
- Matt
What can I say?
It's all good... It's all good. As Always! Healthy wishes Scott - for body, soul, for heaven and earth. My transformation takes baby steps. My goal I think is the same as yours.
LOVED the simplified version of Sky - I had to laugh when I read the second one. It made me think of "hitchhikers guide to the galaxy" where it says Earth is "mostly harmless" (in the upgraded version that is - in the original version I believe it said earth was "harmless"). Love that book - it always cracks me up.
I need to include silence into my schedule too. I always seem to either have the TV or the stereo on. It's polluting my senses. I'm seriously thinking of getting rid of my TV and with it my Xbox and DVD player. It's a tough one since I LOVE movies. On the other hand - I can always watch DVDs on my computer...
Hi Scott,
Just droping in to say hi
